Position Profile Series

Position: Quarterback
Player: Leilani Limary

September 24, 2003

What I like best about being the quarterback is being able to see the play develop right before my eyes. I already know where people are suppose to be and who is getting the ball. Being able to see the hole suddenly appear and close right after the running back gets through is amazing. In passing situations being able to read the defense and know that the play that we just called is going to be wide open is a rush in of itself.

Preparing for my position. It takes alot of heart and some thick skin. You will receive lots of praise when your team does well, however if there are any gliches at all in the play calling or execution you will be the first person called upon to figure out why things aren't working. You need to have no fear. There will be linemen, linebackers and other people from the defense just drooling for the opprotunity to get a good hit on you. In tough situations a great quarterback needs to remain composed and not get so emotional that you become caught up in the moment. As the saying goes, "you need to keep your head when everyone else is losing theirs." There will be ten other players on the field with you that need to see confidence, leadership and a strong sense determination when you stand before them and tell them that we are going to get that first down or touchdown.

As far as the physical aspect and techniques know what your weaknesses and strengths are. If you have a great arm learn how to use it. If speed is a weakness do not try to hide away, work on it to improve. You want to always be thinking and not become predictable in what you are going to do by giving it away with your body. If you always keep it on an option when you roll to the left work on that. If you only look at your primary receiver in a passing situation work on seeing the whole field.
