Former
WAFL teams join forces to form Women's Affiliated Football
Conference Two teams join existing Independent Women's Football
League
The
Sacramento Sirens are pleased to announce the formation
of the Women's Affiliated Football Conference (WAFC). The
WAFC is made up of multiple divisions of established women's
football teams in different cities who have decided to continue
to work together to play football for the Fall 2002 Season.
The WAFC was incorporated specifically to protect the integrity
of existing teams and to provide a place for quality teams
to play without committing them to a league.
The
WAFC will provide teams an opportunity to thoroughly research
existing leagues to establish their legitimacy and viability
before becoming full members. The WAFC has three divisions
of 4 teams each. Divisions include the Central Pacific Division,
the South Pacific Division, and the South Atlantic Division.
The Sirens will play teams from the Central and South Pacific
Divisions that include the following:
Central
Pacific
Sacramento Sirens
Oakland Banshees
Hawaii Legend
San Francisco StingRayZ
(former SF Tsunami players)
South
Pacific
California Quake
Los Angeles Lasers
San Diego SunFire
Arizona Caliente
In
addition, the Sacramento Sirens and the Oakland Banshees
have joined the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL)
as exhibition teams for Spring/Fall 2002. After initial
discussions with several leagues, the IWFL proved to be
one of the most reputable women's football leagues doing
business today. The Sirens and the Banshees applied for
and were granted limited membership for this season as a
way for both teams and the IWFL to establish a working relationship
and facilitate further discussion of full membership for
all WAFC teams for 2003.
