SIRENS Beat Banshees in Pre-season 41-20
by The Sacramento Sirens
August 5, 2002

The Banshees call the game with 4:44 remaining to reduce the risk of serious injury.

Once again the awesome Sirens defense was key in the 41-20 win over the Oakland Banshees.

In the first half, Veteran QB #6 Channey Powers tossed the ball only 5 times but excelled in the running game. Making their debuts for the Sirens, rookie running backs #1 Julie Wicher and #33 Michelle Kahler did a great job carrying the ball. Veteran fullbacks #36 Dana “D-train” McIntyre and #34 Lisa Giblin pushed the ball through the middle with McIntyre scoring once. With the Sirens defense off to a slow start and the short handed Banshees playing both sides of the ball, the teams traded touchdowns to end the first half with a score of 20-20.

In the second half the Sirens defense exploded. Sirens veteran Tina “Taco” Rogers, #6, stepped up with multiple tackles and assists, one sack, one interception and a fumble recovery that she ran back for a TD. Veteran #73 Stephanie Cors was also quick to jump on two fumbles and the Sirens capitalized with scores. Joined by lead tackler,#40 veteran “Rocket” Hazelton, the Sirens defense got back on track in a big way for the remainder of the game.

With the Sirens poised to score again and the tired Banshee athletes pounded by the resurgent Sirens defense (several minor injuries in the second half) the game was called with 4:44 remaining.
