THE
"SACK PACK" IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!
In the first game of the 2002 regular season, the Sacramento
Sirens lived up to their name and reputation by beating
the San Francisco StingRayz 45-0 at Cosumnes River College
on Saturday.
The
Sirens "Sack Pack" defense was awesome in action,
sacking the SF Quarterback, #8 Heather Bruno five times
and racking up impressive tackling totals. Veteran Safety
Tina "Taco" Rogers #6 and Linebacker #59 "Diamond
Lill" Jarrell accounted for four of the five sacks.
Rogers and Veteran LB #40 Jennifer "Rocket" Hazelton
led the defense in tackles with 7 each.
Debuting a new offense under the direction of O-coordinator
Ron Brown, the Sirens executed so effectively that the offense
was rarely on the field for more than a few plays. Rookie
RB Julie "Wicked" Wicher scored on a 56-yard run-after-catch
on the first pass play of the game. Early in the second
quarter, Rookie RB Michelle Kahler broke away with a 78-yard
run for the Sirens second score of the game. Threatening
again in the 2nd, the Sirens missed a score when Veteran
FB #36 Dana McIntyre fumbled on the 1-yard line and the
StingRayz recovered the ball. The StingRayz failed to capitalize
on the turnover however, and the Sirens led at half time
by a score of 14 -0.
"Wicked" Wicher came on again in the 3rd quarter
scoring twice on runs of 12-yards and 19-yards followed
by a TD by Veteran Hilary McLaughlin on a short run of 6-yards.
In the 4th, Kahler, Wicher and Veteran QB #11 Leilani Limary
executed a dazzling double handoff while the O-line opened
a hole in the SF defense which allowed Kahler to get over
the goal line again with a 31 yard run up the middle. The
Sirens last score of the game came in the 4th when Veteran
DB Kellie Kirkpatrick intercepted a SF pass and ran back
45-yards to cap the score at 45-0.
Kahler was named Offensive MVP with an impressive 155 yards
rushing and 2 TDs. Wicher was a close competitor with 99
yards and 3 TDs. The entire Sirens defense was named Defensive
MVP for their outstanding team effort in shutting down the
SF offense time and time again. Kahler was named MVP for
the game.
