SIRENS "SHAKE THE QUAKE"
by The Sacramento Sirens
October 10, 2002

In the much anticipated re-match, the Sacramento Sirens took on and beat the 2001 WAFL Champion California Quake, 52- 19, and proved that they could "bring it" with the best and win.
After being eliminated in the play-offs last year by the California Quake, the Sacramento Sirens find satisfaction in executing in every aspect of the game and winning big in their only match up this season. The Quake gave the Sirens the best game of the regular season so far.

The Quake broke out on their first drive to score on a short pass from QB Brandy Marcus to Receiver Junko Tanida but the Sirens drove in three touchdowns before the Quake had a chance to score again. The first Sirens' TD was a 26-yard run by #23 Michelle Kahler who has racked up impressive rushing totals in every game. #21, Hilary McLaughlin followed that with a 12-yard run for the second Sirens TD in the 1st. McLaughlin's kick for the first PAT was blocked but she booted it through on the second try bringing the score to Sirens 13 - Quake 6 at the end of the 1st Quarter.

The Sirens scored again early in the 2nd quarter on a 14-yard run by #22 Julie "Wicked" Wicher who is averaging over 150 yards rushing per game. The Quake's next drive was successful on another pass from Marcus to Tanida but failed on the 2-point conversion attempt bringing the Quake's score as close as they were to get to the Sirens' for the remainder of the game. Sacramento scored 3 more times prior to the half on a 16-yard pass from QB #11 Leilani Limary to rookie Tight End Courtney Brazil followed by another short 6-yard run by Kahler and an outstanding 50-yard punt return by Wicher. McLaughlin kicked another PAT for a Half-time score of Sirens 39 - Quake 12.

Coming out after the half with another successful passing sequence, Wide Receiver #88 Laurie Webb scored on a 45-yard pass from QB Limary and the Sirens added another 6 points to their total. Immediately following that was an impressive interception and run back by ace defender #6 Tina "Taco" Rogers to put the Sirens up 52-12 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Sirens' defense racked up more sacking and tackle totals to round out the game.
In the 4th quarter, the Quake struck on a 6-yard run by Amy Croger and a PAT kick by Angelica Ibarra.
