SIRENS
beat LEGENDS 47-26 to secure home field advantage.
Conference playoff game to be at Cosumnes River College
on November 23.
In their first meeting since the 2001 spring exhibition
season, the Sirens and the Legends played a hard hitting,
good clean game of tough FOOTBALL.
In
their typical style, the Sirens set a quick pace in the
first quarter scoring four times for 26 points. On the Sirens
first possession, veteran FB #36 Dana "D-Train"
McIntyre punched the ball in on a short 1-yard carry. #21
Hilary McLaughlin's extra point attempt was wide of the
mark however leaving the score 6-0.
#62
Nancy Stoner, the Sirens backup kicker, booted the kickoff
to the Legends who fumbled the ball on the return and the
Sirens capitalized. With a second drive of only 53 seconds,
QB #11 Leilani Limary passed the ball to #82 Sarah Trobee
for a 53-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion carry by
#39 Joyce Brown put the Sirens ahead 14-0.
The
Legends struck back with a 67-yard kickoff return to score
for Hawai'i. A missed 2-pt conversion attempt left the score
14-6. On the Sirens next possession, Limary lead a 4-minute
drive down the field only to carry the ball over the goal
line herself on a 10-yd. run. The Sirens missed the 2-pt
conversion pass leaving the score 20-6.
Hawai'i
retaliated with a similar drive and QB #5 Raechelle Fabrao
threw a beautiful pass to #87 Nalani Chey for the Legends
second score. Another missed conversion and the score remained
20-12. With just 1:13 left in the 1st quarter, the Sirens
leading rusher #22 Julie "Wicked" Wicher made
an awesome 55-yd run to bring the score to 26-12.
Beginning the 2nd with an on-side kick, the Sirens took
control of the ball and spent just 1:33 moving down the
field where RB # 23 Michelle Kahler shot in on a 7-yd run
to score a 5th time in the Sirens in 5 possessions, boosting
the score to 32-12. The McLaughlin PAT attempt was no good.
After a series of back and forth drives, Hawai'i scored
late in the second half on a short run by #3 RB MaryAnn
Reed. A 2-pt conversion pass brought the score at the half
to Sirens 32-Legends 20.
On the Sirens first possession of the 2nd half, Wicher racked
up some additional yardage and added another TD to the Sirens
score on a 14-yd run. McLaughlin's PAT was good for 1 and
the score rolled up to 39-20. The Legends intercepted a
Limary pass but failed to capitalize on the turnover and
ended the drive with a punt. Score at the end of the 3rd
Sirens 39 - Legends 20.
The Legends first drive in the 4th resulted in a fumble
which was recovered by Sirens #75 DL Cynthia Mills who ran
the ball the over 60 yards to score. The 2-pt conversion
gave the Sirens the final score of the game.
