Sacramento, CA -
The 2003-2004 IWFL National Champion Sacramento Sirens held their annual awards banquet on Friday, September 10 at the Lyonsgate Grand Ballroom in Sacramento.

Award recipients were as follows:

2004 Most Valuable Player - #22 Running Back, Julie “The Wicked” Wicher
In the 2004 season, Wicher racked up over 2000 all-purpose yards and was the leading scorer for the Sirens again this year. This was Julie’s second consecutive record breaking season. She is indisputably the best running back in Women’s Football.

Offensive Co-MVPs – #11 Quarterback, Leilani Limary
With over 1,000 yards in combined passing and rushing, Limary lead the Sirens to their second consecutive IWFL National title and their third Championship in a row. She is an outstanding leader for this team.

#23 Running Back, Michelle “Mighty Mouse” Kahler
Kahler was second only to Wicher in yards and scoring with over 1,000 all-purpose yards of her own. Despite being injured in mid-season, Michelle came back to score the winning touchdown in the 2004 Championship game against New York.

Defensive Co-MVPs - #6 Linebacker, Tina “Taco” Rogers
Rogers is an outstanding linebacker who consistently leads the team in sacks and tackles. Together with Jarrell, Tina puts the pressure on the opposing offense and gives the Sirens 100% in each and every game.

#59 Linebacke,r “Diamond Lill” Jarrell
Consistently, Jarrell tops the lists in tackles and assists and this year made an outstanding interception in the 2004 IWFL Championship game that turned the tide for the Sirens. Lill is a proven leader and her passion for the game shines.

Most Improved Offense - #84 Tight End, Kathleen Poe
Rookie Poe started the year with little knowledge of the game and a drive that pushed her to the top in the tight end position. Look for her to keep improving in the future and add TDs to her record in 2005.

Most Improved Defense - #72 Defensive End, Dione Longoria
Moving from offense to defense in 2004, Longoria fought hard to improve her performance in each and every game. Dione’s mantra was “Let me do it again, Coach”.

Hammer Award (O-Line) - #61 Center, Angela “Jethro” Chambers
A 4-year veteran for the Sirens, Chambers has been a consistent player in the center of the Offensive line and is pivotal in getting Limary the ball and the protection she needs to do what she does best.

Anvil Award (D-Line) - #90 Defensive Lineman, Heather “Dot” Chattin
Chattin is in her second season with the Sirens and was the recipient of last year’s Rookie of the Year honors. Dot not only handled the often double-team offense of Sirens opponents but she is also the team’s excellent punter.

Sac Pac Award - #4 Defensive Back, Tameka Hutcherson
Coming off an injury in 2003, Hutcherson displayed her awesome track speed in getting to the opponents QB time and time again. She lead the team in Sacks during the regular season.

Rookie of the Year - #5 Defensive Back, Kristie Miser
Often matched up against the largest linesmen on the opponents team, the petite Miser held her own and closed down the opportunity for plays on her side of the field. Look for an excellent year from her in 2005.

“Special Forces” (Sp. Teams) - #2 Defensive/Running Back, Chantelle Powers
Powers has one of the most comprehensive backgrounds in football of any of the Sirens players, having come up through the Pop Warner system and playing in high school. She is an excellent utility player in the offensive and defensive back positions and on special teams.

Most Inspirational Player - #59 Linebacker, “Diamond Lill” Jarrell
Jarrell has a way of exciting and motivating her teammates to push a little harder, go a little farther, and never give up. “Whatta ya say, whatta ya say?”

Owner’s Courage Award - #33 Defensive Back, Denise Grandison
Denise overcame an injury from last season and faced personal conflicts yet still improved her game and excelled as a defensive back. Her courage was also an inspiration to all the Sirens.

Owner’s Hospitality Award - #34 Fullback, Lisa “The Bullet” Giblin
The Giblins opened their home to our “exchange” player from Japan, #81 wide receiver Junko Tanida. Tanida guested with Lisa and her husband Dave for the entire season.

Owner’s Mentor Award - #23 Running Back, Michelle Kahler
Michelle was unstinting with her time and encouragement for anyone on the Sirens sideline. Rookies and veterans alike went to Michelle with their questions or just for a little boost to their enthusiasm; she gave unstintingly.

Owner’s Spirit Award - #70 Injured Reserve, Nichole Martinez
Despite not setting foot on the playing field this season due to a training camp injury, Nichole was at every practice, every game, lending a helping hand with whatever task was needed and engaging the fans in the stands to make a little noise in support of their Champions. Her enthusiastic spirit was contagious and she showed great heart all season long. Nichole should be back on the field in 2005.
